A Prayer for the Unborn

Let’s pray …

“Father, I come to You in Jesus’ Name today with a broken heart… my heart is broken over the laws that have just been passed in New York State concerning the lives of innocent babies.

Where else would I turn but to You? You are the Giver and the Sustainer of all life …You love the lawmakers … the babies … the women … the media … and You love the brokenhearted.

Lord, I pray for Andrew Cuomo today and for his very soul. Holy Spirit – go after this man who was made in the image of God! Father, I wonder who You created Andrew to be when He was just an infant being knit together in his mother’s womb? What were Your plans and purposes for this man who leads the state of New York? Father – bring him back to Your plans and purposes. Let him know the absolute joy of living in Your will!

Lord – I know that You love Andrew Cuomo.  And I also know that no one is beyond the reach of Your salvation and Your mercy. So, Holy Spirit, would you chase Andrew Cuomo down?  Would you wake him up in the night hours?  Would you relentlessly pursue this man with political power?  Would you soften his heart toward You and toward Your love for the unborn?

Would You cause Andrew Cuomo to fall in love with You? Would you give him one more chance?  Would You, Father?

Father, I pray for every woman who suffers from guilt and shame due to her choice to abort a pregnancy. Father, would you let each woman know Your freedom and Your forgiveness? Father, would you set these brokenhearted women on a path of knowing You as Comforter, Healer and Friend? Would You introduce these women to the fulfillment that only You can bring?  Would You, Father?

“You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and are intimately acquainted with all my ways.” – Psalm 139:3

Father – Your Word says that You are intimately acquainted with all of our ways.  I know that You know each woman … You know the hearts of the millions of woman who are still alive today who chose to end a pregnancy.  Would You give them divine appointments with men and women who will love them back to wholeness? Would You, Father?

“Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress …” – James 1:27

Father, I pray that You would forgive the church … and that includes me.  Would You forgive us for our pride and for our critical attitudes? Would You forgive us for ignoring young mothers … single mothers … desperate mothers … and overwhelmed mothers?

“But Jesus called for them, saying, “Permit the children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” – Luke 18:16

Would You forgive us for ignoring children in foster care? Would You forgive us for refusing to be part of the solution? Would You, Father?

“He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse.” – Malachi 4:6

Father, would You turn the hearts of the fathers to their children? Would You cause a generation of men to rise up who take responsibility for their actions and who choose to stay in close connection with the children that they fathered? Would You, Father?

Father … today I am aware of the decree to murder the babies during the time when Moses was born.

Father … today I remember the plans of Haman and King Ahasuerus to wipe out the entire Hebrew population when Esther was Queen.

Father … today I recall the moment in history when Herod decided to murder all of the baby boys when Jesus was born.

And Father … today I shudder as I recall the evil of Hitler.

“The enemy comes to steal, to kill and destroy but I have come that you might have life and you might have it more abundantly!” – John 10:10

It seems to me, Father, that the plans of the enemy have not changed over the course of thousands of years.  It is still his primary plan to steal … kill … and destroy.

Lord … we need a Moses … we need an Esther … we need Jesus!

We need revival!  We need a cultural revolution! We need Jesus!

And so, Father, today I ask You … what can I do?  I am only one woman … but what can I do?

What can I do to reach out to politicians like Andrew Cuomo who are utterly confused about this issue?

What can I do to love a woman whose life was impacted by abortion?

What can I do to help a young mother?

What can I do to love a child who needs a mother?

What can I do to help a young man realize that importance of fatherhood?

What can I do to bring revival to this great land?

Would You use me?  Would You, Father?

In Jesus’ Name I pray … Amen.”

Thanks for listening to my heart this week.  As you know by now, my heart is truly not a perfect heart but it is a heart that is filled to overflowing with gratitude for the life I have been given and for the people who walk with me.  And, it continues to be a heart that is relentlessly chasing after God and all that He is!
